Milky Way from Three Castle Head

Milky Way from Three Castle Head

Three Castle head is one of my favourite locations in Ireland to shoot from. With the Lake, the Castle, the Cliffs and the Ocean, there is stunning beauty in all directions. Each time I have been there I had the place to myself, and its in a very dark location. This was going to be another Milky Way Arc shot with the 50mm lens to get detail in the sky. KaleidoSky

KaleidoSky

This was my first attempt at taking a full Milky Way Arc with a 50mm lens. I had been to this spot before, but I felt I could improve on the previous image. With the light house spreading some light pollution from a few Kilometers away, I...

Swan Lake

Swan Lake

This has been a productive year where I managed to get multiple nights out on the West coast shooting some iconic foregrounds. In January I went back to Three Castle Head Cork to try and get Cygnus over the Castle Towers, with the Lake in the foreground. This is 24 minutes of Sky with added Hydrogen Alpha data of 40 minutes, blended with a four minute foreground shot for the Lake and Castle Towers. Cygnus is the Latin name for the Swan, so with the Lake in the foreground, the title seems appropriate.

Initially postponed due to Storm Eowyn, the festival is back on for the 8th of Feb. I'll be exhibiting my latest from 2024, in framed format with prints available. 2024 was a great year with a Total Solar Eclipse, 2 Aurora outbursts, and some Wild Atlantic Way Coastal nightscapes to show too. Hopefully see you there. More details are here in the website: https://www.galwayastronomyclub.ie/astrofest-2025/
