While I was hiking the Oregon section of the Pacific Crest Trail in 2023, I emerged from the woods at Olallie Lake, just North of Mount Jefferson. At the campsite there was a little jetty extending out into the lake. The lake and the mountain made for a dramatic foreground. Given I was looking South, I knew this would be a great spot for a night shoot. The lake is miles from anywhere, and its a very dark site. This went on my list of places to revisit.
I was back in Oregon this Summer, and with the forecast promising, I decided to head to Olallie and spend 2 nights camping there. Thankfully the second night was fully clear. I set up on the shore and took two 30s shots for the foreground in a 2 pane panoramic, which I then blended with tracked sky shots for a 2 pane sky panorama. The sky shots which were 8x 3min ISO 1000 f/2.8 per panel. The end result was then a crop of the 4 pane mosaic for a better composition.
