On Friday the 10th of May, Ireland experienced the biggest Aurora Outburst in 20 years. On that night we were lucky to have clear skies, and a setting Moon.
A grouping of Sun spots emitted a huge Solar particle out burst in Earths direction. When the highly charged particles arrived and coupled with the Earths magnetic fields, is was so energetic that the Aurora was visible throughout Ireland. It was so strong that it was visible in latitudes in the low 40's where previously Aurora would never have been seen before.
I was in Leenane Galway at the time, and went to Glassilaun beach to photograph and view the event. I had never seen Aurora so strong in Ireland. It traversed the horizon from East to West, and was showing strong streamers overhead. The colours ranged from Yellows, to Oranges, Purple, Red, and the usual Green. It was an epic night.
This shot was taken with a 24mm Samyang lens and Canon Ra. ISO 1600, and an exposure of 2.5s at F/4.
Note: All our prints are printed on Baryta 325g Paper, which is an excellent paper for framing. The paper is a gloss type, which gives very vivid colour views.
