The Horsehead nebula is one of the most famous, and most photographed deep sky objects. It’s situated just below Alintak, one of the bright stars in Orion’s Belt, and is at a distance of approximately 1500 light years. The silhouette shape of the Horsehead occurs as the dark dust obscures the light from the bright Emission nebula in the background.

The Flame nebula is an emission nebula, and with a dark nebula in front blocking out some of the emissions light to give the flame appearance, this region of the sky has two remarkably shaped objects.

This picture was taken by combining 2hrs of Luminance (Clear) filtered images with 120mins each of filtered Red, Green, and Blue to make a colour picture. A further 360 minutes of Hydrogen Alpha filtered light, taken over 2 nights, was added to emphasize the background emission nebula, and also to add to the contrast of the Horsehead nebula. This gave a total exposure of 14 hours.

Note: All our prints are printed on Baryta 325g Paper, which is an excellent paper for framing. The paper is a gloss type, which gives very vivid colour views.
